A Busy Autumn – Part 2

I was debating calling these posts “A Big Fall”, but I opted for something a little less apocalyptic instead. So pardon my verbosity, and let’s just get straight to all the great music that’s coming up in the next couple of months.

For starters, you can always find out where we’re playing next by keeping an eye on our upcoming shows calendar on the right hand side of our home page.

As you can see, we have a few shows coming up in Ontario, and those in North Bay and Wakefield will have us playing three sets each night. If you have friends in the area, please tell them that we’re coming.

Now here are some other great concerts happening in Montreal that you need to know about:

Brie Neilson and her Other Men Album Launch at Sala Rosa – October 4

A founding member of The Unsettlers, Brie Neilson has been steadily finding her own voice and garnering some very well deserved attention from her solo performances. You can listen to her new album in it entirety on Brie’s bandcamp page, but I’ll save you some trouble. Here’s “Now I Know“. Good luck getting this one out of your head:

Declan O’Donovan Album Launch at Divan Orange – October 6

Click the poster to RSVP

Declan O’Donovan first made waves in Montreal when he fronted the band Scotch. Late in 2011 he returned to his native Yukon to help build a house and record his solo debut. I had the small-world / what-are-you-doing-here pleasure of sitting next to Declan on a return flight from Vancouver this past August and was given an advance copy. It’s a hit. Here’s “I Want You Close“:

Hello Darlin’ Productions Wintergreen Concert Series 2013

The group in charge of promoting both Brie and Declan’s album launches is Matt Large’s Hello Darlin’ Productions. For ten years now, Matt and his team, who also bring you The Montreal Folk Festival on the Canal, have also been the driving force behind the monthly Wintergreen Concert Series. The 2013 season which began last weekend is looking like it will be among their best.

You can buy tickets in advance on the Hello Darlin’ website. For more info click here.

The Divorcees at Grumpy’s – October 5

I can’t believe it’s already been a year since we were last out in the Maritimes. One of the more interesting aspects about that tour was the fact that we played with our drummer, Brock Gallant, on only one rehearsal. Brock is actually based in Moncton where he keeps the beat for The Divorcees, and when word got out that we didn’t have a drummer and would have to cancel our tour, he stepped in and saved us.

The Divorcees recently released a new album called “Four Chapters“. You can hear the whole thing on their website, just click here. Better yet, enjoy the video they made for their song “The Crows“:

The Divorcees play at Grumpy’s Bar on Friday October 5th, and if we weren’t already playing in North Bay that night, we’d be there.

Summer in the City

Just a quick post to touch base and let you know what we’re up to.

We’d like to thank those who took the time to show their support for Montreal’s TSN Radio 990 by contacting the CRTC. We appreciate it, and we know for a fact that our friends at CKGM appreciate it too.

Are you enjoying your summer? Why not comment on this post and tell us what you’ve been up to.

We’re gearing up for this year’s version of Tropical Hot Dog Night, taking place on August 25th. We’d love to have you there, but unfortunately it’s a private party.

Following that, we’ll be shooting a music video for our song “Sleepwalking” on Labour Day weekend. And once again, it’ll be a private affair at a top-secret location.

One thing you can attend is our next show which is happening on Friday September 7th at Quai des Brumes in Montreal. The perfect remedy to your provincial election blues. The best part about this show is that we get to share the stage with our old and dear friends The Unsettlers. It has been too long so we’ve played a show together …

One final note: if you have any friends of family in Vancouver, you should let them know that David is spending some time out there this week and managed to book a few gigs. Visit this Facebook page for dates and venues, and spread the word!
