Our Last Show … of the Summer

A REMINDER

Just a quick reminder, later tonight you can see us perform live at Petit Campus located at 57 Prince-Arthur East. This will be the last time we play for a while as we will be on hiatus for the rest of this month and all of next month, taking some time off to rest, travel, and work on some new songs. So if you haven’t seen us in a while, now’s your chance. The doors open at 8:30 pm and the show starts at 9:00 pm sharp, so don’t be late!

A GOOD CAUSE

Admission is $10. If you don’t have a ticket you can purchase one at the door. We are donating $2 of every ticket sale to Head & Hands, a wonderful non-profit organization that promotes physical and mental health of Montreal’s youth through a variety of programs and services.

A GREAT OPENING ACT

Opening the night is Toronto-based alt-country ensemble The Key Frames. Tonight’s show is the first of many on a tour of the Maritimes that will take them to some great venues that we had a chance to play at over the past couple of years. They will also be debuting songs from their latest record “High Light Low Light“, produced by Josh Finlayson of the Skydiggers. I look forward to picking up my copy and we hope you will all do the same. (By the way, if you don’t know who the Skydiggers are you should fix that!)

AN APPEARANCE ON RADIO AND TV

At 4:20 pm this afternoon tune your radios to 990 AM (quickly before the CRTC ruins it for everyone and lets RDS take over!) to hear us live in studio with Melnick in the Afternoon on TSN 990. We’ll sing some songs, talk about recent tours, and convince Mitch’s listeners to attend tonight’s big show.

And finally during supper time, at 6:30 pm to be exact, be sure to watch CTV News as we’ll be making an encore appearance on What’s On, the entertainment segment of the news with Christine Long.

See you tonight!

The Key Frames – Head & Hands Above the Rest

Say hello to the The Key Frames.

We shared the stage with them this past spring at Toronto’s famed Silver Dollar Lounge. It was a great night. Lee Mellor was on the bill too. We closed the show with all three bands joining forces to sing “The Weight” in memory of Levon Helm who had passed away earlier that week. It’s a song we had all sung many, many times before, but it was still quite moving hearing all of those voices together. Those Key Frames … they can sing.

Since that night we’ve been itching to work with them again. And wouldn’t you know it, they’ll be here in a couple of week. The Key Frames kick off a tour of Eastern Canada on Wednesday July 11 here in Montreal at Petit Campus, promoting their second full-length release “Low Light High Light“. Produced by Josh Finlayson of The Skydiggers (those Key Frames have great taste too!), the album features eleven original and tightly-crafted songs split between two lead vocalists. They’ve been described as “the Champagne of Canadian Roots-Rock“. We feel they’re a must-listen for fans of Gram Parsons, Neil Young, and Blue Rodeo.

We are happy to be a part of this show, not only because the music will be great, but because we’ve decided to donate a portion of the ticket price to our favourite non-profit organization, Head & Hands. For those not in the know, Head & Hands promotes the physical and mental well-being of Montreal’s youth by providing a number of medical, social and legal services. We feel that the work they do is vital, and so we are happy to contribute to their programs, and hope you will too.

Have a great week everybody, and see you on July 11th!

P.S. We may have some extra tricks up our sleeves, like possibly a raffle to pie your favourite – or least favourite – Jimmyrigger in the face. Stay tuned.
