We’ve updated our schedule of upcoming shows. We’ll be in Knowlton, Qc, at the end of September to play at the Star Cafe.
This show will be something special. For starters it’s being presented by a wonderful community of musicians and music lovers who call themselves The Acoustic Village. They do a wonderful job of bringing talented amateur and professional acts to their town, and the music is thriving in the townships thanks in no small part to their efforts.
But what will make it even more unique is that we will be open for ourselves. David, Andre, and Kevin, will each take turns on stage to display their individual talents as songwriters, singers, and guitar players. The event will culminate in two electrifying sets by the full band, along with our new drummer, Charles Dumont.
Charles made his debut with us at Divan Orange in August, and he fit right in. Here’s a photo taken by our friend Cassandre who sat in the front row:
We also had video cameras rolling, and the footage will be up soon.
There’s so much great live music in Montreal between now and the end of the monthTHIS WEEK!. Here are a few highlights that we’ll be attending, including some that we’ll be performing at!
We’ve been looking forward to the release of Lazarus Moan’s “Decorated” for a while now. Mark Goodwin is a fantastic songwriter, and he’s got the best musicians in town backing him. Look for a feature article on the band in next week’s Gazette! In a rare feat of boldness, Andre Kirchhoff is playing the opening set at this show! It’s another early start; be there at 6:00 pm.
When things wrap up with Lazmo, walk up Saint-Laurent, “Decorated” CD in hand, and go watch the amazingly talented Sarah Jane Scouten at Casa del Popolo. Sarah Jane’s latest record “The Cape” captures her sound perfectly, and is an instant classic. Not to be left out in the cold, our guitar wunderkind Kevin Moquin will play the opening set. This show starts at 8:00 pm.
Enough of these solo spots already! We’re all back together as the Jimmyriggers next Thursday night at Divan Orange, and we’re excited to announce the debut of our new drummer, Charles Dumont. The Steady Swagger, pioneers of the Whiskeybillie genre, will headline, and Vancouver’s blues punk band Marry Me will open. This show starts at 9:30 pm. Please be there on time.
The month ends with the 8th annual Country en Ville, a free outdoor country music festival in the heart of NDG. David & Kevin are teaming up to perform as a duo, playing country classics along with rootsy versions of a few modern hits. There are plenty of great acts on this year’s bill including The 444’s, Bobby & Eddy, Grouyan Gombo, and Les Perroquets. The festival starts at noon, and David & Kevin perform at 3:15. I can think of no better way to spend a Sunday.
But wait! There’s more …
September will bring more great shows from our friends The Diamond Roads, and a CD release for TheAll Day Breakfast Stringband. We’ll tell more about those in a later post.
